Q&A: Are there any treatments for eczema on your lips?

Question by : Are there any treatments for eczema on your lips?
I know you can use creams for your skin, but can you use any of them on your lips too?

Best answer:

Answer by Ang Lee
Corticosteroid creams and ointments have been used for many years to treat eczema and other autoimmune diseases affecting the skin. Sometimes the base used in certain brands of corticosteroid creams and ointments irritates the skin of a particular patient. Side effects of repeated or long-term use of topical corticosteroids can include thinning of the skin, infections, growth suppression (in children), and stretch marks on the skin.

Natural and holistic treatments are a safer, gentler alternative to use without the harmful side effects or allergic reactions.

Herbal ingredients such as Vitamin E oil, Mentha pipererita oil, Bulbinella frutescens tr. and Aloe ferox tr. work quickly to soothe and promote healthy, trouble free skin. They help to provide relief from itching and discomfort and reduce eczema patches and also prevent infection and inflammation as well as reduce scarring.
They maintain lymphatic functioning; support skin health, functioning, and membranes of cells in the skin; promote healthy cell renewal and routine shedding of old skin cells; maintain the body’s water balance, keeping the skin fresh and hydrated; cleanse and purify the system, thereby promoting skin integrity; & support lymphatic functioning and support the skin’s ability to purify itself.

What’s the best thing to cure eczema on the neck?

Question by hosho: What’s the best thing to cure eczema on the neck?
My friend has this nasty thing on her neck for more than a year. Its consuming her whole neck actually. Its dry, red and scabby. I knew she went to a Doctor, they gave her this lotion but it didn’t work at all. I tried giving her cortaid, but that didn’t really work either

The main cause of eczema is overreaction of the immune system. Identifying certain foods, chemicals, etc can be very helpful in battling this disease. I try to avoid soy and milk products which trigger my flare-ups.
After using number of prescription drugs I’ve turned to the natural treatments.
Now I use herbal remedies from serenaskin.com, which aim at the root of the disease – the immune system, and are steroid-free.
After about 2 weeks of using ointment and spray my skin has been cleared up and now I just continue with anti-eczema extract, which controls the immune system. My skin has been clear for months now.
It is the only treatment I have found that provides me complete relief when I use it as directed.

Did you consider that you might be allergic to something? I’ve had eczema all my life and at the age of 20 I finally figured out it was linked to allergies. In my case, the main culprit was wool. Try eliminating wool from your wardrobe and using fragrance and dye free detergents/deodorants/soaps and other products to see if it helps. It did wonders for me!

By the way, I tried all kinds of skin products and none of them worked very well. I liked Eucarin the best. It has an emollient that’s supposed to be really good for eczema, but honestly my skin still itched when I used it.

There’s also a prescription drug called Elidel that suppresses your immune system right under your skin to stop the itching. It helped me for a while, but I stopped using it once they discovered it caused cancer in children.

Are there surgeries to eliminate eczema or allergy conditions (eyes & skin particularly)?

Question by : Are there surgeries to eliminate eczema or allergy conditions (eyes & skin particularly)?
I’m sick of creams, moisturizers, strange baths and tablets that only manage the condition – SOMETIMES. I have to carry allergy eye drops with me every where I go and use them several times a day.

This basically came on overnight two years ago and turned my entire life upside down. I’m only 22 and I haven’t been able to enjoy what are supposed to be the best years of my life. My 21st birthday came and went in blur of depression. I’m desperately unhappy.

Answer by Susie D
Not that I know of, but I do know that skin problems are an autonomic neuropathy (weak neuron reaction to stimulation) and a symptom of chemical intolerance (allergy) – excessive neuron sensitivity to trace amounts of poisons. In your case it appears to be the neurons that regulate a specific skin reaction. Autonomic neuropathies are the cause of most common health problems, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Since neuropathies can be triggered by chemicals, they are treated by avoiding as many chemicals as possible in diet and environment. I’m still pretty new at this but have had incredible dramatic results. I had some skin issues too, like cradle cap on my face, but one of my worst symptoms was chronic narcolepsy. Like any other allergy, the treatment was in avoidance of the trigger. That was pesticides mostly. An whole food organic diet made that abundantly clear. That was the only diet I hadn’t tried up to that point. Now it all makes sense.

I’ve had some of my symptoms all of my life (56 yrs), but suddenly I became seriously symptomatic almost all at once. So did my daughter. I had to wait until organic food came along to feel better. I learned a lot from a book on the health of the autonomic nervous system. It saved me. I owe so much to the neurosurgeon that wrote that book.

Red Arrow Right Slow .2 sec Are there surgeries to eliminate eczema or allergy conditions (eyes & skin particularly)?

Try an organic whole food diet. Avoid non-organic milk like the plaque. Do drink whole organic milk or dilute with spring water. Drink and cook with only spring water. Avoid anything processed, at least for a while. Although sometimes I make waffles with organic flour and organic eggs / lemon juiced and baking soda for leavening. No processed organic food is fully organic, so avoid them. The FDA says that pesticide levels in food are safe. That’s semantics. That’s true only for people with no weak neurons. Everyone has some weak neurons.

Try Palmolive original dish detergent, if you haven’t. It’s very easy on the autonomic nervous system. It has unique ingredients compared to other detergents. I even use it for hand washing and showering, because regular liquid soaps are too strong for me and cause severe symptoms. My mom could also only use Palmolive. Dr Bronner’s unscented soap (health food store or internet) seems to be OK, but is not fully organic – contains citric acid, but it’s not as bad as cocamide. “Now” brand calcium carbonate for calcium supplements is safe since it’s from mineral and is organic. Use that only. Aleve is best for pain and is a blood thinner (reduces inflammation from pesticides). It doesn’t have the same non-organic drug fillers as the rest. Now if only the drug companies would use only organic drug fillers.

I have a 22 yr old daughter who has the same problem as I. She too became symptomatic almost overnight as I had. She had to leave college for a time to deal with this problem and hasn’t been able to go back yet, plus she has Crohn’s disease and it’s decided to make trouble. It’s a potentially deadly disease. So I understand what you mean when you say your life has been turned upside down. Neither one of us can go back to living our lives yet. It’s very scary being this handicapped for so long but not qualifying for any kind of aid and having no health insurance and a twenty yr old car.

By the way, watery eyes are a classic symptom of chemical intolerance. My eyes have watered for years. They stopped on an organic diet and chemically neutralized environment. There is interesting stuff on the internet about chemical intolerance. Drs can diagnose health problems sometimes, but they never say what causes them. It’s autonomic neuropathies. They don’t practice much homeopathic treatments beyond low fat diets. Autonomic neruopathies need homeopathic treatments. They are basically allergic reactions to chemicals. I don’t know why no one says that. It’s like it’s a secret.

Good luck with your skin condition. Do try a whole food organic diet. I’m sure it will work for you. It can’t hurt. Substitute frozen ocean caught fish for organic meat, unless you’re a vegen. Neutralize your whole bedroom and clothes with hypoallergenic detergent if you can tolerate it. My daughter had an eczema outbreak only once a few years ago. Check out this link below on living chemical free. I found it long after I figured this chemical problem out on my own, but I still found it very helpful. A good book on treating allergies is written by Doris Rapp, MD at Amazon – called “Is This Your Child”.

I have eczema(since i was young) and I’ve always used body wash with oatmeal in it. It stops the itching. And keep the skin moisturized with aveeno or any other kind of lotion(nonscented if you can) I also use over the counter cortizone cream. It works for me.

When I was 16 I could no longer use commercial moisturisers or cleanser/toner on my skin (due to allergies). From then, I wash my face with water only, no toner required (really – I honestly believe it is not necessary to use toner), and for moisturizer I use pure, unrefined shea butter. You use the shea butter by rubbing a small amount between your hands, and mixing it with a little bit of water. I’ve had no eczema or allergies since then.

Q&A: Cures or tips for dealing with eczema?

Question by ¡Marinabear!: Cures or tips for dealing with eczema?
I’ve had eczema since I was 3 or 4, but it used to be a lot more extensive than it is now (neck, arms, back, and such) Now, it’s less spread around, but I have it on my face, which obviously is ruining my complexion, and on my neck still. Are there any cures or tips for dealing with it? I use Cortisone, but it is only minimally effective. Does anyone either have medical remedies or like, passed down methods of dealing with it? Thanks!

To prevent or reduce eczema flare-ups, avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, dry air, harsh soaps, perfumed products, and bubble baths. Use blankets and clothing made of cotton instead of more irritating fabrics, such as wool, or stiff synthetics, such as polyester. After showering or bathing, pat dry (rather than rub) so you leave a little moisture on your skin. Then apply a moisturizing cream or lotion to trap moisture in the skin. Use a humidifier to add moisture to indoor air during the winter heating season.

Your doctor usually will review your skin care routine to make sure you are doing everything possible to prevent symptoms. If, despite these measures, your eczema is bothersome, your doctor may prescribe a corticosteroid ointment or cream for you to use on the affected area.

Has anyone had good luck with any treatment for Dyshidrotic Eczema?

Question by hswatsonaz: Has anyone had good luck with any treatment for Dyshidrotic Eczema?
I have it on my feet and hands, but my feet are much worse. I get little liquid filled blisters (don’t really know what causes them to form more sometimes than others) and scaling skin. I’ve tried the steroid creams that the doctor prescribes, but not much has improved. Just wondering if anyone else has this same type of Eczema and if you have found a successful treatment to put this into a remission of sorts? FYI: No one in my family suffers from this, not hereditary.

firstly you have my sympathies. my 10 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with this and is suffering greatly, both from the pain and in the school playground as her hands look so bad.
she has just finished course of strong anti biotics and is using 1% steroid cream but so far it has not helped. in fact the steroid cream has made it worse. i have been using cream designed for burns which does seem to take the itching and soreness away. i am seeing another dermitologist tomorrow so will post again if i find out anything useful, good luck though xx

well first of all you may have seen your dr since you know it is eczema, keep the areas dry, dont use harsh soaps,or lotions. dove or neutogena soaps are good, and you dont have to wash all of your body all of the time. you may need something to stop the itch, thats how it gets worse, spreds, and may become infected. be well.

Hi,

Local steroid creams are the main treatment for the itching in eczema. Use the steroid cream as prescribed by the doctor. After the rash settles down, use it at least once daily for another 2 weeks. It can be used whenever the itching or rash develops.

Good hydration of the skin followed by a lubricating cream is the main way to prevent flare-ups of eczema. Water-soaked skin is much less itchy. The eczematous skin is very sensitive to soaps, therefore avoid soaps as much as possible, especially during flare-ups. Alternatively, use a mild, moisturizing soap.

The skin is generally dry in eczema. After a good bath, the skin feels good due to hydration. The moisture in the skin can be retained by applying a layer of lubricating cream to the entire skin while it is damp. Apply it daily after the steroid cream has been applied to the itchy areas. Avoid applying any ointments or petroleum jelly because they block the sweat glands, increase the itching, and worsen the rash, especially in warm weather. Also, soap is needed to wash them off, which can aggravate the problem.

Keep the fingernails cut short as the scratching with nails will perpetuate the vicious cycle of itching. Frequent hand washing will avoid any super-infection of the eczema.
